This page explains what plbe.org learns about its readers and what happens to it. The short version: very little, and none of it is sold.
When you read
There are no advertising trackers, social media pixels or third-party analytics on PLBE. The server keeps ordinary technical logs (the connection address, the page asked for, the time and the browser type) to keep the site working and safe; they are kept for a short time and never used to profile anyone.
So that we know which articles are read to the end and which are abandoned, every page sends us one short line when you leave it or switch to another tab. It holds the page address, how many seconds the page was actually on your screen, how far down you scrolled, what kind of site sent you (a search engine, an AI assistant, another website, a bookmark) and the country Cloudflare reports for the connection. The line carries a random tag that exists only while that page is open, so a second line from the same page updates the first instead of counting twice. No cookie is set, nothing is saved in your browser, and neither your connection address nor your browser details are stored with it. If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, the line is not sent at all.
The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which handles connection data on our behalf to stop attacks and serve pages quickly.
When you write to us
If you use the contact form or write to mailbag@plbe.org, we receive your name, email address and letter. We use them to read and answer it and to keep a record of corrections, nothing else. You are not added to a mailing list. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to keep out automated spam; Turnstile looks at your browser for that purpose and may keep a short-lived token.
Partner boxes
Some pages carry boxes from partners such as online tutoring services, booksellers and accommodation sites, reached through affiliate networks such as CJ and MaxBounty. If you click one, the network and the partner can note that you came from PLBE, usually with a cookie on their own site, so that a sign-up or booking can be credited to us. That happens under their privacy policies. We only ever see totals. On our side, clicks on the boxes are counted per day, per box and per country, with no address or identifier kept.
Your rights
You can block or clear cookies in your browser; PLBE works without them. To ask what we hold about a letter you sent, or to have it deleted, write to mailbag@plbe.org. Depending on where you live, laws such as the EU or UK GDPR or US state privacy laws give you further rights, including a complaint to your data protection authority.
Changes
